![]() I had to navigate to Xee’s Preferences > Style and then pick Black. The only thing I found odd that Xee did not pick up the Dark them of my macOS. Xee’s status bar shows additional details about the image, such as its dimensions, file type, file size, color details, and more. ![]() The other options appear neatly placed next to them at the top. As expected, the Previews and Next buttons for browsing between images are placed at the top left corner. Despite the similarities, Xee steps ahead with a few unique features. Xee is quite a straightforward replacement of Preview. You may call it a simpler version of the XnView MP and use it accordingly. You can pay for the Pro version to unlock alignment, cropping controls, applying filters, adjusting granular aspects, and more. You might enjoy the readymade bouquet of options, such as different effects, to try out on photos. That will become apparent as soon as you sync your media folders with the app. Besides photos, it also supports a variety of media formats. ![]() Phiewer stands out by displaying the basic details about a photo distinctly on its interface. However, the blurring effect offering backdrop might just steal your attention for a bit. While being one of the fastest image viewers to open a photo, Phiewer shows the thumbnails on the left with an option to start a slideshow directly. When you open a photo, it shows the main image with a collection of thumbnails on the left side. The free version of Phiewer lets you view one image at a time. ![]() So let’s take a look at the top Image Viewer apps for Mac. After that, click on Change All to apply the tweaks to relevant files across the system. From the Info window, you need to click on the drop-down below Open With and choose a relevant app from the list. There are a few features that it is missing that would prevent me from using the application on a daily basis. I’d like to have some ability to update EXIF data and delete files. Since you cannot delete files or mark them for deletion, you cannot use Lyn to delete unwanted photos after a photo shoot. Also, it would be great to search on EXIF data. The app also was a little slow to load RAW and large tif photos. Then again, I’m also a 3 year old iMac. The app is supposed to support all popular photo formats. Visit their website for a list. It was also very intuitive to use – no manual needed. Overall, Lyn is an easy to use, free photo browser. The app was also very stable for a beta app. It did not crash on me at all. It also supported all of the file types that I use: Canon Raw, Nikon Raw, tif, and jpeg. ![]()
